Easter Sunday. On the last day of celebration of the Semana Santa, the holy week, a bull racing competition in the streets of Vejer (Pamplona style), with some brave running in front of the beasts.

Subida a Vejer. Usually organized at the end of May, it's a rally trail from Barbate to Vejer. You will see speeding rally cars climbing up the CA5203 road, which leads to Vejer.

La Feria de Vejer. Vejer’s main festival is celebrated in mid August in honor of the patron saint of the city, 'Nuestra Señora de la Oliva. For two weeks Vejer is enjoys the party, with food stalls, shows, and funfairs.


Eating out in Vejer de la Frontera can be a pleasure. Whether it's an appetizer (tapas) or a full meal, you'll find a lot charming bars and restaurants, with an eye on details, something quite diffferent to other places in Andalusia, where the food is delicious but the "mise en place" very poor.

The cuisine in Vejer is based on the products of the surrounding countryside, like vegetables, fruits and legumes.
 Given its proximity to the sea, fish is an important part of the local diet, especially tuna and shellfish.

Typical dishes are the potaje de castañas (a soup made with chestnuts) and the classic Andalusian gazpacho (tomato soup, bread, onions, peppers, garlic and oil), served hot.
