El casco antiguo. The old town, situated within the medieval walls, which are still intact along the entire perimeter. It's a tangle of narrow, winding streets full of craft shops, bars and restaurants. If you happen to see an open door, peek inside the inner patio as you may find a beautifully kept garden.

El Castillo de Los Guzmanes. The Castle in Tarifa was finished in 960 AD, but was dedicated to Alonso Perez de Guzman el Bueno only few centuries later, in 1295, when this historical figure did not hesitate to sacrifice his son in defense of the city. The Castle’s tower is a remarkable construction, linked to the castle itself by a 40 meters high wall.

Tarifa’s beaches. With 38 kilometers of beaches you cannot get bored, there is plenty of choice. Tarifa’s beaches are awesome, with fine white sand and massive dunes you can climb. Just to name a few, check out Bolonia beach, where you’ll find the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, or Valdevaqueros beach, a windsurfing and kitesurfing paradise.

Whale watching. The waters of Tarifa are one of the best places in Europe for the sighting of whales and dolphins. The best period falls between April and October because they swim between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. You can contact FIRMM foundation in Tarifa for info and tours. www.firmm.org
