La Noche de San Juan. The celebration in honor to the arrival of summer, held on the night of June the 23rd. It is celebrated with parties all along the coast, with bonfires, music and concerts.

Fiestas de Aguadulce. On July 16 is the festivity in honor of the Virgin of Carmen. Fishermen and locals celebrate it with a processions at sea.

El dia de las Moragas. It’s a festivity similar to San Juan’s night, however is held on December 29. These time the bonfires on the beach are used to cook and grill fresh fish and to warm up the people.


The food in Roquetas de Mar is typical of the Almeria coast, with fresh fish products and vegetables. Do not forget that the area is called the "Huerta de Europa", or the garden of Europe, because it 's a huge expanse of artificial greenhouses, where most of the vegetables you find in the supermarkets around Europe are produced.

Fish soups and crustaceans are always on the table, with traditional dishes like the “escabechado de pescado”, a plate of Arabic origin made with bluefish, or the “cocido de Troncos de acelgas”, cooked chard, or the “arroz aparte”, seafood with rice “on a side”.
