About Ronda | Info on Ronda

Population: 37,000 – Altitude: 740 Mt - Website: www.turismoderonda.es

Ronda is located in the province of Malaga, about 120 km north of the capital. The town is set on a rocky plateau of volcanic orgines and it’s divided into two parts by a canyon known as the Tajo de Ronda.

Romans, Visigoths and Arabs have made the history of this city and especially the Moorish influence is felt in every corner of the town, with its narrow and winding streets.
Ronda is also the cradle of bullfighting, here you will find the oldest bullring in Spain.
Very popular is its Equestrian school, the Real Maestranza, founded in 1572 from the Spanish aristocracy, who trained the horses for bullfighting.

The city now lives mainly on tourism, being one of the four most visited places in the whole of Andalucia. The town is divided into three areas, the Old Town, which was the old Arab Medina, the district of San Francisco, divided by the city walls, and the district of the Mecadillo, located across the river Guadalevín.
