La Noche de San Juan. It celebrates the beginning of summer with a beach party that lasts until dawn, with music, concerts and lots of fried sardines.

Festival Cueva de Nerja. Usually this festival is celebrated in mid June, in honor to the discovery of these beautiful caves back in 1959. Concerts, ballets and shows are displayed in the spectacular central room of the Nerja Caves.

La Virgen del Carmen. It's the procession in honor of the patron saint of the city, where the image of the Virgin is carried by boat. It takes place on July the 16th.

The Feria de Nerja. Nerja’s traditional festival is held on the second week of October. 5 days of food, music, shows and entertainment.


Nerja’s food is typically Mediterranean. With the town squeezed in between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical, the local dishes are based on fresh seafood and tropical fruits.

Traditional plates are the ajoblanco with uvas (a cold soup with almonds, olive oil, garlic and grapes), sardines or boquerones (anchovies), the insalada de aguacates (salad with avocado) or the tortilla de bacalao (omelette made with cod and sugar cane).
