Corpus Christi. In May or June, depending when the festivity falls, the air of Mijas is filled with the scent of rosemary, as this herb is used in the Catholic procession to celebrate the Holy Body and Blood of Christ; and at every corner of the town you will see colorful homemade altars.

Festival de Teatro. During the first week of August, Mijas hosts in the Municipal Auditorium an important theatre festival staging well known Spanish theatre companies and artists.

Festival de Flamenco. In July the Flamenco Dance Festival displays local and national groups.

La Feria de Mijas. Mijas Festival is held on the second week of September, in honor to the patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña, and is the biggest celebration of the year. Music, food, concerts and funfairs lighten up the atmosphere in town .



In Mijas you will find many international restaurants, but the traditional gastronomy is based on soups, which are considered as main dishes. The “salmorejo” or the classic “gazpacho” are two cold soups made with tomatoes.

Among the homemade sweets are the “buñuelos”, similar to round pancakes, and the “hornazos” (egg cakes), both inherited from the Arab cuisine.
