Marbella is part of the province of Malaga and is perhaps the best known city throughout the Costa del Sol. Situated directly on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the Sierra Blanca, Marbella is an international tourist destination and together with the nearby Puerto Banus, still part of Marbella’s municipality, is the “VIP” area of the Spanish coast.

As evidence of its past, there are various remnants of the Roman period, plus two towers and part of the castle walls dating back to the Moorish domination.
After the Second World War, Ricardo Soriano, a Spanish nobleman, purchased a mansion between Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara where he built a complex called "El Rodeo", and started to promote the area within the circle of his rich friends. This kick started the touristic boom that transformed a quite fishermen village into a worldwide brand, in the 50’s and the 60’s most of the wealthier and aristocratic European families acquired properties in Marbella, including for example, the Bismarcks, Rothschilds, Metternich or the Thyssen-Bornemisza.

Marbella lost part of its glamour in the 80’s, but started to boom again in the following decade thanks to a shady and corrupt mayor who brought over construction and high fly criminals in town; major scandals and police investigations brought this to an end, and today Marbella is trying to recover, cleaning up its image and rethinking its economic development plans.

But this is still a nice and lively town where to live or spend the summer vacations, and where every now and then you could spot a celebrity in one of its many restaurants and clubs.
It has a well-kept old town, in a typical Andalusian style, a promenade filled with beach bars, clubs and restaurants, where you can just sit and enjoy the mild climate, with an average of 300 days of sunshine in a year.
