Festivals and Food in El Puerto de Santa Maria

Festivals in El Puerto de Santa Maria | Food in El Puerto de Santa Maria

La Feria del Vino Fino, the wine festival. El Puerto de Santa Maria is part of the so called sherry triangle, the area where this sweet wine is produced, along with San Lucar de Barrameda and Jerez de la Frontera. This festival is usually held towards the middle of May, it lasts one week, and celebrates the sherry wine (locally also known as Fino) with music, food and guess what? Sherry of course.

La Virgen del Carmen. It’s a religious festivity in honor of the Virgin patron of the sailors and the fishermen. It’s celebrated on the 16th of July and displays a colorful procession that carries the image of the Virgin on the Guadalete river.

The most famous and appreciated local product is with no doubt sherry wine, a sweet wine known all over the world, which is produced in this area.

There are guided tours that will explain you about all the stages of the sherry production, and of course you can visit one of the many bodegas (wineries) in town, the oldest one being La Bodega Osborne, founded in 1772.
