Chiclana de la Frontera is located 25 km south of Cadiz, and it’s a typical Andalusian town with well kept whitewashed houses. The town center is located 6 km from the coast, but Chiclana is famous in Spain for its main beach, the Playa de La Barrosa, in the Sancti Petri area, a long strip of fine white sand, equipped with every service, that still manages to retain a virgin aspect, with its sand dunes and pine forests.

Historically, it is worth remembering the Battle of Barrosa, in 1811, when Sir Thomas Graham and the Anglo Spanish divisions defeated the French troops during the so called Spanish peninsular war, in an attempt to lift the French siege of Cádiz; but at the end the victory didn’t prove effective, and the siege was kept in force for another year.

Currently Chiclana de la Frontera lives mainly on tourism. With Sancti Petri area, just 4km from Chiclana, being the hotspot, hosting an important number of resorts and hotels, luckily still being not too detrimental for the surrounding environment, its agriculture and the flourishing vineyards.
