Cazalla de La Sierra is a municipality in the province of Seville, located 85 km north of the Andalusian capital. Cazalla is right in the middle of the Sierra Norte natural park, an area that forms part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the Dehesas de la Sierra Morena.

Cazalla’s origins date back to the Neolithic age, as evidenced by recent discoveries of prehistoric tools in the area.
It is known that the Romans had settlements here, followed by the Visigoths, then the long Moorish domination up to the Catholic Reconquest, when King Fernando III conquered the city in 1247.

During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the so called “siglo de oro” (Spain’s golden age), the wine produced around Cazalla de la Sierra attained great popularity, turning Cazalla into the biggest wine exporter to the New World, the Americas.
