Benalmadena is a town located in the province of Malaga, on the Costa del Sol, just 22 km south from the province capital. Famous for its nightlife and entertainment, is a mass tourism destination, especially famous for Northern Europeans.

Early settlements in Benalmadena date back to the Bronze Age, but this area has fallen under several dominations, first the Phoenicians, then the Romans, the Moors, and finally the Catholic armies from Castille reclaimed this land.

Historically this coast has suffered continuous attacks from the Berbers pirates and remained virtually uninhabited for decades.
It was an Italian, Fenix Solesio, which in 1784 had re-started the economy by constructing six paper mills in the area of Arroyo de la Miel.

Currently, Benalmadena is a major tourist destination. Since 1960, the urban sprawling has become too widespread and disproportionate to the detriment of the environment. Now things are improving, but the all-inclusive hotels overlooking the sea are not giving Benalmadena the image of a typical Andalusian town.
