Aracena is situated in the province of Huelva, an hour away from Huelva, Seville and Badajoz (Extremadura), and at 70 km from Portugal.

Aracena has very ancient origins, there are evidence of human settlements from the iron age and even the Bronze Age, dating back to 3000 BC.

Even then the Phoenicians and the Romans benefited from these lands, living mostly in settlements located in the countryside.
Evidence of the Moorish domination can be confirmed from the fact that Aracena was the capital of a Taifa kingdom after the fall of the Caliphate of Cordoba.

The Christian Portuguese troops conquered this land in 1231 only to pass it to the kingdom of Seville.
Finally, in 1833, following an administrative reform, Aracena splits from Seville, to form part of the Huelva province.
