Almuñécar is a town in the province of Granada, located on the Costa Tropical, a coastal strip between Nerja and Motril.
Almuñecar contains in its area a number of villages, the most famous being La Herradura, a Spanish white village that is worth visiting, especially for its fantastic bay and good water sports sites.

The population increases during July and August, in fact this former fishing village turns into a tourist destination in summertime, but always manages to keep a laidback atmosphere.

If you happen to hear some local defining himself as Sexitano, is because of the ancient name that Almuñécar possessed at the time of Phoenician domination: Sexi.
The evidence of these ancient roots were discovered only recently, in 1950, thanks to archaeological excavations, which are interesting to visit.
